COMMITTEE
REPORTS: EDUCATION
9/28/07
Members of the Education Committee have begun to evaluate
its
accomplishments
for the past 12 months and establish the Committee’s goals
for
2008.
As we have previously reported, the regional educational
initiative was
commissioned
by the Education Committee. Although significant progress
has
been
achieved by the REI Task Force, a final report will be
forthcoming by
the
end of this year.
The Education Committee continues to support the Crystal
Apple Award, an
annual
recognition for an outstanding educator in the public
schools.
Details about the award will soon be posted on the Chamber’s
website.
Through the efforts of both the Conquistadores and the
Education Committee,
scholarships
for students will be awarded for the purpose of the selected
students
to attend Las Cruces Day in Santa Fe in January 2008. Two
students
who are majoring in business or government at New Mexico
State
University or Doña Ana Community
College will be selected for $500
scholarships
to participate in this annual event hosted by the
Conquistadores.
Finally, the Education Committee is seeking new members who
are interested
in
committing time to focus on education and workforce
development. If
interested,
